Fate of infant passed over to US soldiers at Kabul airport revealed

Doha: After he appeared in a video in the hands of U.S. soldiers who took him while he was screaming and dangling from a crowd through a fortified wall, good news came about the Afghan infant, whose image sparked widespread controversy in a scene that rocked the whole world.
The New York Times on Saturday quoted U.S. officials as saying that the infant handed over to the U.S. Marines at Kabul airport was “now safe and reunited with his family,” and U.S. Marine Spokesman James Stinger wrote in an email quoted by the U.S. newspaper that the infant seen in the video was taken to an on-site treatment center and received medical attention.
According to the American newspaper, an infant not more than a few months old suddenly emerged at the hands of the crowd and lifted the child until the soldiers saw him, adding: “A U.S. Marine pulled the infant from one arm, as if dealing with a piece of luggage, and passed the child behind him before returning to observe the crowd.”
Afghan journalist and activist Omar Haidari, who posted the original clip of the incident, said the footage summarizes the chaos and fear at Kabul airport and represents a message of condemnation to the international community for abandoning the Afghan people after Kabul fell to the Taliban, al-Jazeera live reported.
In recent days, Kabul airport has been in disarray and hundreds of Afghan citizens have tried to reach inside Kabul airport, in order to catch one of the planes, some of them carrying children, as a crowd of Afghans gathered on the Taliban-controlled side of a concrete wall topped with barbed wire to beg a group of Marines to allow them to enter the airport.
الدوحة: بعد أن ظهر في مقطع فيديو وهو في أيدي جنود أمريكيين تناولوه من حشد من الناس عبر حائط محصّن وهو يصرخ متدليًا، جاءت أنباء سارة عن الرضيع الأفغاني الذي أثارت صورته جدلًا واسعًا في مشهد هز العالم كله.
ونقلت صحيفة النيويورك تايمز يوم السبت خبرًا عن مسؤولين أمريكيين مفاده أن الرضيع الذي سُلم إلى مشاة البحرية الأمريكية في مطار كابل “آمن الآن وتم لم شمله بأسرته”، وكتب المتحدث باسم مشاة البحرية الأمريكية جيمس ستينجر، في رسالة بالبريد الإلكتروني نقلتها الصحيفة الأمريكية، أن الطفل الرضيع الذي شوهد في الفيديو نُقل إلى مركز للعلاج في الموقع، وتلقى رعاية طبية.
وبحسب الصحيفة الأمريكية فإن رضيعًا لم يتجاوزعمره بضعة أشهر، برز فجأة على أيدي الحشود ورفع الطفل حتى يراه الجنود، مضيفة :” قام أحد أفراد مشاة البحرية الأمريكية بجذب الرضيع من ذراع واحدة، كما لو كان يتعامل مع قطعة من الأمتعة، ومرر الطفل خلفه قبل أن يعود لمراقبة الحشد”.
من جهته قال الصحفي والناشط الأفغاني عمر حيدري الذي نشر المقطع الأصلي للحادثة إن هذه اللقطة تختزل الفوضى والخوف الموجود في مطار كابل، وتمثل رسالة إدانة موجهة للمجتمع الدولي بسبب تخليه عن أبناء الشعب الأفغاني بعد سقوط كابل تحت أيدي حركة طالبان بحسب موقع الجزيرة مباشر.
وشهد مطار كابل خلال الأيام الماضية حالة من الفوضى وحاول المئات من المواطنين الأفغان الوصول إلى داخل مطار كابل، من أجل اللحاق بواحدة من الطائرات وبعضهم يحمل أطفالًا، حيث تجمع حشد من الأفغان -على الجانب الذي تسيطر عليه طالبان- من جدار خرساني يعلوه أسلاك شائكة للتوسل لمجموعة من مشاة البحرية للسماح لهم بدخول المطار.
