Qatar has officially received the flag for the 2025 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships, set to take place in Doha at the Lusail Sports Arena. The handover occurred at the conclusion of the 2024 Busan World Championships in South Korea, with President Ryu Seung Min of the Korean Table Tennis Association passing the flag to ITTF President Petra Sorling, who then delivered it to Khalil Al Mohannadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association.
The Qatari delegation, led by Khalil Al Mohannadi, included Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, Ali Sultan Al Muftah, and Abdullah Al Mulla, representing the Qatar Table Tennis Association.
This marks Qatar’s second time hosting the championship, following its successful hosting in 2004, making it the only Arab country and the sole representative from the Middle East to have this honor.
The tournament will feature singles and doubles competitions, comprising 5 events for men’s and women’s singles and doubles, along with mixed doubles, totaling 443 matches. It serves as the final test for the ITTF before commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first World Championships in 1926, scheduled at Wembley Stadium in 2026.
The Doha 2025 World Championships will also host the ITTF General Assembly meetings, which will now be held annually in conjunction with the World Championships, following a majority vote at the last meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. This decision aims to reduce costs and facilitate broader participation. The meeting will include the election of the ITTF President for the next 4 years until 2029, extending over 4 days after the World Championships.
Qatar secured the hosting rights for the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships during the voting at the ITTF General Assembly meeting in Amman, Jordan, in December 2022, garnering 57 votes compared to 39 votes for the Spanish city of Alicante.

تسلمت قطر رسميا علم استضافة بطولة العالم لكرة الطاولة 2025، التي ستُقام في الدوحة بصالة لوسيل الرياضية منتصف العام المقبل.
وفي ختام بطولة العالم بوسان 2024 بكوريا الجنوبية، قدّم رئيس الاتحاد الكوري للعبة، يو سيونج مين، العلم لرئيسة الاتحاد الدولي لكرة الطاولة بيترا سورلينغ، لتسليمه إلى خليل المهندي رئيس الاتحاد القطري لكرة الطاولة، في حضور رؤساء اتحادات قارية ومسؤولي الاتحاد الدولي ومؤسسة كرة الطاولة العالمية WTT، ومسؤولي الاتحاد القطري وكبار الضيوف.
حضر الحفل وفد قطري برئاسة المهندي، وشمل الوفد محمد عبدالله صالح أمين سر الاتحاد القطري لكرة الطاولة، وعلي سلطان المفتاح أمين السر المساعد، وعبدالله الملا عضو مجلس الإدارة.
تعتبر هذه المرة الثانية التي تستضيف فيها قطر البطولة، مما يجعلها الدولة العربية والوحيدة في الشرق الأوسط التي تحظى بهذا الشرف بعد استضافتها بنجاح لنسخة عام 2004.
تتضمن البطولة فئات الفردي والزوجي للرجال والسيدات، والزوجي المختلط، مع إجمالي 443 مباراة. وستكون هذه البطولة البروفة الأخيرة للاتحاد الدولي قبل احتفالية مرور 100 سنة على أول بطولة عالم للعبة في 1926.
سيتم أيضا في الدوحة 2025 إقامة اجتماعات الجمعية العمومية للاتحاد الدولي، والتي تم دمجها لتقام سنويا في الدولة المستضيفة لبطولة العالم، بعد موافقة غالبية الأصوات في اجتماع العاصمة التايلاندية بانكوك.
وستشهد الاجتماع انتخابات رئيس الاتحاد للعبة للفترة المقبلة حتى 2029، وسيستمر الاجتماع لأربعة أيام بعد انتهاء البطولة.
فازت قطر بشرف استضافة البطولة خلال التصويت في اجتماع الجمعية العمومية للاتحاد الدولي في عمان في ديسمبر 2022، بعد حصولها على 57 صوتا مقابل 39 صوتا لمدينة اليكانتي الإسبانية.
