Ashghal opens four new signal-controlled intersections on Wholesale Market Street
افتتاح أربع تقاطعات بإشارات ضوئية جديدة ضمن مشروع تطوير شارع السوق المركزي
The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has completed the conversion of four signal-controlled intersections and opened them to traffic as part of the upgrade plan of the Wholesale Market Street, including the Wholesale Market Intersection, Al Mashatil Intersection, Wadi Al Ghadeeriyat Street Intersection with Bu Hamour Street and Al Sidr Street.
These openings coincide with each other in order to achieve great flow of traffic in both densely populated areas of Bu Hamour and Al Wa’ab where there are many economic, educational and health facilities.
The new openings are part of a plan to develop the Wholesale Market Street and a number of surrounding roads to improve traffic movement in the area, which is gaining an economic importance and witnessing traffic congestion.
The upgrade of the Wholesale Market Street project includes the conversion of four roundabouts, increasing the number of lanes at the junctions and constructing service roads along with the main road, which contributes to increasing the traffic capacity thus enhancing both safety and traffic flow.
Project Engineer Abdullah A Nuaimi confirmed that Ashghal was quick to accomplish the conversion of the roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections due to the urgent need for the area, given that the four intersections are located in a congested area that witnesses heavy traffic due to the surrounding facilities such as the Wholesale Market and many health centers such as Mesaimeer Health Center as well as different educational facilities. This is in addition to being connected to major roads such as Salwa Road, Wholesale Market Street, Haloul Street, Mesaimeer Road and Al Waab Street.
He explained that these new openings would provide alternatives to the drivers away from the streets where the construction work is taking place.
Wholesale Market Intersection
The Wholesalel Market Roundabout, which consists of three lanes, was upgraded into a signal-controlled intersection with seven lanes on the Wholesale Market Street in the north and south directions, including two left turns and one right turn. The number of lanes heading west was increased to six lanes instead of two, including three left turns, while the number of lanes heading east was increased to four instead of two, including two left turns. The increased number of lanes will facilitate traffic movement through the intersection.
These expansions increase the capacity of this vital intersection, which connects the traffic coming from Mesaimeer Road, Haloul Street, Al Zubara Street, Wholesale Market Street, Salwa Road and Al Sidr Street.
The Wholesale Market Intersection will serve many vital facilities, including the Wholesale Market, which attracts thousands of people daily and receives hundreds of trucks, which form a major traffic pressure in the area. The intersection also provides easy access to Thursday/Friday Market and the surrounding residential areas such as Ein Khaled, Bu Hamour and Al Waab.
Al Mashatil Intersection
Al Mashatil Roundabout, which intersects with Haloul Street and Al Rihab Street was upgraded into a signal-controlled intersection. Ashghal expanded the number of lanes to three lanes instead of one lane in both directions heading north and south. While the two lanes in both eastern and western directions were upgraded into five lanes instead of two, including two left turns.
The new intersection will facilitate the movement of traffic to the Wholesale Market through the Wholesale Market Road and Mesaimeer Road, which is an important link to thousands of trucks and cars to reach the market as well as the surrounding business facilities.
Al Sidr Intersection
Al Sidr Roundabout was upgraded into a signal-controlled intersection, which intersects with Al Sidr Street and Snay Bu Hasa Street. Ashghal has expanded the number of lanes in Al Sidr Intersection to seven lanes heading north and six lanes heading south, including three lanes to turn left. While the number of lanes was increased to six lanes in the eastern and western directions, including 3 lanes turning to the left.
Bu Hamour Intersection
Bu Hamor Roundabout was upgraded into a signal-controlled intersection in which it intersects with Wadi Al Ghadeeriyat Street. Ashghal expanded the number of lanes to four lanes instead of two lanes in the directions heading east and west, with a single lane to the left, while the number of lanes heading north was increased to two lanes instead of one.
The new improvements will increase the intersection’s traffic capacity, which will significantly improve the movement of vehicles in the heart of Al Waab area, which has many educational and health facilities.
انتهت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” من تحويل أربع دوارات إلى تقاطعات بإشارات ضوئية وفتحها أمام الحركة المرورية ضمن خطة تطوير شارع السوق المركزي، حيث افتتحت تقاطع السوق المركزي وتقاطع المشاتل وتقاطع شارع وادي الغديريات مع شارع بوهامور إلى جانب تقاطع السدر.
تتزامن تلك الافتتاحات مع بعضها البعض بهدف تحقيق انسيابية كبيرة في حركة المرور في كل من منطقة بو هامور ومنطقة الوعب حيث توجد كثافة سكانية كبيرة والعديد من المرافق الاقتصادية والتعليمية والصحية.
وتأتي الافتتاحات الجديدة ضمن خطة “أشغال” لتطوير شارع السوق المركزي وعدد من الطرق القريبة بهدف تحقيق سيولة مرورية في المناطق المحيطة والتي تكتسب أهمية اقتصادية كبيرة وتشهد زحاماً مرورياً كبيراً.
ويتضمن مشروع تطوير شارع السوق المركزي إضافة إلى تحويل الدوارات الأربعة، زيادة عدد المسارات عند التقاطعات وإقامة طرق خدمية إلى جانب الطريق الرئسي ما يساهم في زيادة القدرة الاستيعابية للطريق وبالتالي تعزيز كلاً من السلامة والحركة المرورية.
وبهذه المناسبة، أكد عبدالله النعيمي، مهندس المشروع، أن “أشغال” سارعت في إنجاز تحويل الدوارات إلى تقاطعات بإشارات ضوئية نظراً للحاجة الملحة التي تحتاجها تلك المناطق حيث تقع التقاطعات الأربع في مناطق مزدحمة وتشهد كثافة مرورية كبيرة نظراً للمرافق الحيوية المحيطة مثل السوق المركزي والعديد من المراكز الصحية مثل مركز مسيمير الصحي والمنشآت التعليمية المختلفة، هذا إلى جانب أنها تتصل بطرق رئيسية معها مثل طريق سلوى وشارع السوق المركزي وشارع حالول وطريق مسمير من جهة وشارع الوعب من الناحية الأخرى.
وأوضح أن تلك الإفتتاحات الجديدة ستعمل على توفير بدائل أمام قائدي المركبات بعيداً عن الشوارع التي تقع بها أعمال إنشائية.
تقاطع السوق المركزي
تم تحويل دوارالسوق المركزي والذي كان يتألف من ثلاثة مسارات إلى تقاطع بإشارات ضوئية يحتوي على سبعة مسارات بشارع السوق المركزي في كل اتجاه الشمالي والجنوبي من بينها مسارين للانعطاف يساراً ومسار واحد للانعطاف يميناً، بينما تم زيادة عدد المسارات إلى ستة مسارات بدلاً من مسارين في اتجاه الغرب، من بينها ثلاثة مسارات للانعطاف إلى اليسار، في حين تم زيادة عدد المسارات إلى أربعة مسارات بدلاً من مسارين في اتجاه الشرق من بينها مسارين للانعطاف إلى اليسار. ستعمل زيادة عدد المسارات على زيادة السعة المرورية للطريق وتسهيل حركة المرور عبر التقاطع.
وبهذه التوسعات تزيد القدرة الاستيعابية لهذا التقاطع الحيوي والذي يربط الحركة المرورية القادمة من طريق مسيمير وشارع حالول وشارع الزبارة وشارع السوق المركزي وطريق سلوى وشارع السدر.
وسيخدم تقاطع السوق المركزي العديد من المرافق الحيوية ذات الأهمية الاقتصادية وعلى رأسها السوق المركزي والذي يقصده الآلاف يومياً ويستقبل المئات من الشاحنات والتي تشكل ضغطاً مرورياً كبيراً في المنطقة، كما يسهل الوصول إلى سوق الخميس والجمعة الحيوي، والمناطق السكنية المحيطة مثل عين خالد وبوهامور والوعب.
تقاطع المشاتل
تم تحويل دوار المشاتل الذي يتقاطع مع شارع حالول وشارع الرحاب إلى تقاطع بإشارات ضوئية، حيث قامت “أشغال” بتوسعة عدد المسارات إلى ثلاثة مسارات بدلاً من مسار واحد في كلا الاتجاهين الشمالي والجنوبي، بينما تم تحويل المسارين في كلا الاتجاهين الشرقي والغربي إلى خمس مسارات بدلاً من مسارين، من بينهما مسارين للانعطاف إلى اليسار.
سيساهم التقاطع الجديد في تسهيل الحركة المرورية أمام القادمين إلى السوق المركزي عبر شارع السوق المركزي وطريق مسيمير حيث يعتبر حلقة وصل مهمة أمام آلاف الشاحنات والسيارات للوصول للسوق فضلاً عن المرافق الاقتصادية المحيطة.
تقاطع السدر
تم تحويل دوار السدر الذي يتقاطع مع شارع السدر وشارع صنيع بو حصى إلى تقاطع بإشارات ضوئية، حيث قامت “أشغال” بتوسعة عدد المسارات في تقاطع السدر إلى سبعة مسارات في اتجاه الشمال و ستة مسارات في اتجاه الجنوب من بينهما ثلاثة مسارات للانعطاف إلى اليسار. في حين تم زيادة عدد المسارات إلى ستة مسارات في الاتجاهين الشرقي والغربي من بينهما 3 مسارات للانعطاف إلى اليسار.
وستعمل أعمال التحسينات الجديدة على زيادة السعة المرورية للتقاطع وهو ما سيساهم بشكل كبير في تحسين حركة المركبات في قلب منطقة الوعب حيث العديد من المنشآت التعليمية والصحية والمرافق الاقتصادية المختلفة.
تقاطع بوهامور
تم تحويل دوار بشارع بوهامور والذي يتقاطع مع شارع وادي الغديريات إلى تقاطع بإشارات ضوئية، حيث قامت “أشغال” بتوسعة عدد المسارات إلى أربع مسارات بدلاً من مسارين في كلا الاتجاهين الشرقي الغربي من بينهما مسار واحد للانعطاف ناحية اليسار، بينما تم زيادة عدد المسارات في الاتجاه الشمالي إلى مسارين بدلاً من مسار واحد.
