QRCS concludes successful ‘Little Hearts’ project in Bangladesh
الهلال الأحمر القطري يختتم مشروع “القلوب الصغيرة” في بنجلاديش
Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has completed its extraordinarily and successful “Little Hearts” project in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Over 10 days, the medical team performed 79 cardiac catheterizations for the listed children, offered more than 250 medical examinations, and referred one patient to the Department of Open-Heart Surgery.
As the charitable task came to an end, the Director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), which hosted the procedures, personally thanked the delegation for their great work, sending his special thanks to QRCS, the government and people of Qatar, and, particularly, the benevolent donors.
The staff of the Embassy of Qatar in Dhaka had much to do in this success. They helped the delegation on arrival, transported the medical materials to the hospital using their own cars, gave them all the facilities required, and escorted them until their departure to Doha.
QRCS’s delegation visited Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to meet with its President, Secretary-General, and board members.
Amid extensive media coverage, the meeting discussed the ongoing bilateral humanitarian projects and how to ensure their effectiveness and sustainability.
Then, the group visited BDRCS’s Holy Family Hospital, a major health facility in Dhaka. They took a tour of the various departments, spending more time at the dialysis centre. Development projects were proposed to improve this vital health facility, which serves thousands of families in the country.
Among the cases dealt with by the medical team were atrial septal defects (ASD), ventricular septal defects (VSD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), aortic and pulmonary stenosis balloon valvuloplasty, right-side and left-side catheters, diagnostic catheterizations, pre- and during-procedure echocardiography (ECG), transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), defibrillation, and coronary stents.
The delegation of QRCS featured Dr. Mohamed Salah Ebrahim, Executive Director of Relief and International Division and head of delegation; Dr. Khaled Alam Al-Huda, coordinator of medical convoys; Dr. Mohamed Tawfik Noaman, paediatric cardiologist and professor at the University of Texas (USA); Dr. Iad Al-Amouri, paediatric cardiologist (Jordan); Dr. Hassan Ismael, paediatric anaesthetist (West Bank); Abdullah Ashkanani, senior catheterization technician at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC); and Qatari volunteers Aliaa Al-Maadheed and Tomador Al-Boeneen — the founders of Box of Joy initiative, who distributed toys and gifts to the patients, with support from Qatar Airways.
اختتم الهلال الأحمر القطري بنجاح كبير أنشطة قافلته الطبية التي سيرها لجمهورية بنجلاديش على مدار 10 أيام لتنفيذ مشروع “القلوب الصغيرة”، بمعالجة الأطفال ممن يعانون تشوهات وعيوب خلقية .
وقال الهلال الأحمر القطري في بيان اليوم إن فريق القافلة الطبي قد أجرى 79 عملية قسطرة قلب للأطفال المدرجين على قوائم المستفيدين، بالإضافة إلى فحص أكثر من 250 طفلاً آخرين، وتحويل مريضة واحدة لقسم عمليات القلب المفتوح .
وأوضح أن الحالات الطبية التي تعامل معها الفريق تنوعت ما بين الثقوب الأذينية والبطينية والشريانية، وتوسعة الشريان الأبهر، والصمام الرئوي، والسحب، وقسطرة الجهتين اليمنى واليسرى ، والقسطرة التشخيصية، وتصوير القلب بالموجات الصوتية قبل وأثناء القسطرة، وكذلك تصوير القلب عن طريق المريء، وجهاز تنظيم ضربات القلب، واللفائف والدعامات.
ونوه بالجهود والتسهيلات الفاعلة التي وفرتها سفارة دولة قطر لدى بنجلاديش ، ما ساعد في نجاح مهمة القافلة وتحقيق أهدافها الإنسانية ، مشيرا إلى أن وفده زار عددا من الجهات المعنية وعقد لقاءات مع مسئولي جمعية الهلال الأحمر البنغالي تم خلالها مناقشة المشاريع الإنسانية الجاري تنفيذها في إطار الشراكة بين الجانبين، و سبل تعزيزها واستدامتها، أضافة إلى ما أنجزته القافلة الطبية وما نفذته من أنشطتها .
وشملت الخدمات التي صاحبت المشروع مجالات الدعم النفسي والمعنوي للأطفال والتي يحرص الهلال الأحمر القطري على تقديمها لهم ضمن مبادرة “صندوق السعادة” لمتطوعيه ، فضلا عن تدريب الكادر الطبي المحلي في مركز القلب والشرايين، بحيث يكون قادراً مستقبلا على إجراء هذا النوع من العمليات بمفرده .
وتعتبر هذه القافلة التي رأسها الدكتور محمد صلاح إبراهيم، المدير التنفيذي لقطاع الإغاثة والتنمية الدولية بالهلال الأحمر القطري الخامسة التي يتم إرسالها إلى بنجلاديش، منها 3 قوافل ضمن برنامج “القلوب الصغيرة” استفاد منها حوالي 250 طفلاً، وقافلتين للجراحة العامة استفاد منهما حوالي 70 مريضاً من اللاجئين القادمين من ميانمار.
