Al Khater Affirms Qatar’s Commitment to Support Least Developed Countries

Doha: HE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, affirmed the State of Qatar’s commitment to work with its full force to support the least developed countries (LDC’s) in implementing an ambitious, comprehensive and forward-looking program of work supporting human dignity and achieving sustainable development goals.
This came in her Excellencys speech during the virtual event on the sidelines of the 2021 High-level Political Forum (HLPF), under the theme ‘Building back better to realize the SDGs in LDCs: Accelerating action to achieve inclusive, sustainable, resilient recovery – approaches on the road to the LDC5 conference in Doha’.
Her Excellency said: “I greet you from Qatar, the host country of the upcoming 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, in which a new program of work for the decade 2021-2030 will be adopted, an occasion that provides an ideal opportunity to stimulate transformation measures to overcome the challenges faced by the least developed and Landlocked Developing Countries by 2030, it is the year in which we committed ourselves to deliver on our promise to achieve all the Sustainable Development Goals.”
Her Excellency pointed out that it is said that the least developed countries are our battleground to eradicate extreme poverty, reduce inequality, fight hunger and achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Her Excellency added that when everyone raced to achieve the vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the pandemic has hampered some of the progress that has been made. With this setback, many will fall short of the goals set out in the Sustainable Development Goals, challenging our commitment to leaving no one behind. In times like these, the values of solidarity, pluralism and collective action across borders in the face of global challenges must be the new rules that must be upheld, strengthened and continually mobilized.
Her Excellency said that everyone learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the crisis knows no boundaries. Hence, everyone must act today to prepare for tomorrow. “Now is the moment, to design bold actions and invest in building the resilience of individuals and communities to overcome the long-term development challenges and prepare better for future crisis. We will strive to realize the sustainable development goals ambitions and work hand in hand to put together a strengthened framework to support LDCs,” Her Excellency added.
HE Al-Kahter called to remember that developing countries represent a huge human potential full of extraordinary hopes. It is important that people are at the center of attention because they have the knowledge and understand the problems, not to mention the young people, who represent nearly 90 percent of the largest generation of young people living in LDC’s .
Her Excellency added that countries have endless potential to drive effective solutions and promote social progress and everyone must strengthen our partnerships, work together and exploit this potential for the benefit of all humanity.
HE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, thanked everyone for discussing the legislation of measures to achieve the sustainable development goals in the least developed countries.
Her Excellency concluded by saying that as the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries is approaching, Qatar is pleased to welcome everyone to attend this important event. The State of Qatar is committed to working with all to support LDC’s in implementing an ambitious, comprehensive, forward-looking, human-centered program of work that does not leave anyone behind, supports human dignity and achieves the Sustainable Development Goals, adding that all countries will continue to strive to realize these ambitions and work hand in hand for an enhanced framework to support LDC’s and landlocked developing countries.

جاء ذلك في كلمة سعادتها خلال الحدث الافتراضي على هامش المنتدى السياسي رفيع المستوى لعام 2021، تحت شعار /إعادة البناء بشكل أفضل لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة في أقل البلدان نموا: تسريع العمل لتحقيق الانتعاش الشامل والمستدام والمرن – النهج على الطريق إلى أقل البلدان نموا/.
وقالت الخاطر “أحييكم من قطر، البلد المضيف لمؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس القادم المعني بأقل البلدان نموا الذي سيتم فيه اعتماد برنامج عمل جديد للعقد 2021-2030، وهي مناسبة تتيح فرصة مثالية لتحفيز إجراءات التحول للتغلب على التحديات التي تواجهها البلدان الأقل نموا والبلدان النامية غير الساحلية بحلول عام 2030، وهو العام الذي التزمنا بأن نفي بحلوله بوعدنا بتحقيق جميع أهداف التنمية المستدامة”.
وأضافت “يقال إن أقل البلدان نموا هي ساحة معركتنا، حيث إما أن نفوز أو نخسر معركتنا للوفاء بالتزامنا بالقضاء على الفقر المدقع والحد من عدم المساواة ومحاربة الجوع وتحقيق أجندة 2030 للتنمية المستدامة معا”.
وتابعت سعادتها “بينما كنا نتسابق لتحقيق رؤية خطة التنمية المستدامة لعام 2030، أعاقت الجائحة بعض التقدم الذي تم إحرازه. ومع هذه الانتكاسة، سيعجز الكثيرون عن تحقيق الأهداف المحددة في أهداف التنمية المستدامة، مما يمثل تحديا لالتزامنا بعدم ترك أي شخص خلف الركب. في مثل هذه الأوقات، يجب أن تكون قيم التضامن والتعددية والعمل الجماعي عبر الحدود في مواجهة التحديات العالمية الصفات الطبيعية الجديدة التي يجب التمسك بها وتعزيزها وحشدها باستمرار”.
وقالت “كما تعلمنا من جائحة /كوفيد 19/، فإن الأزمة لا تعرف حدودا وإن الفئات الأكثر ضعفا هي دائما الأكثر تضررا. ومن ثم، يجب أن نتحرك اليوم للاستعداد للغد. الآن هو الوقت المناسب لتصميم إجراءات جريئة والاستثمار في بناء مرونة الأفراد والمجتمعات للتغلب على التحديات التي تواجه التنمية طويلة الأجل والاستعداد بشكل أفضل للأزمات المستقبلية”.
ودعت الخاطر إلى “تذكر أن البلدان النامية تمثل إمكانات بشرية هائلة تزخر بآمال غير عادية. ومن المهم أن يكون الأفراد في بؤرة الاهتمام عند العمل لأن لديهم المعرفة ويفهمون المشاكل، ناهيك عن الشباب، الذين يمثلون ما يقرب من 90% من حجم أكبر تعداد لجيل الشباب في التاريخ، يعيشون في أقل البلدان نموا”.
وأضافت “هؤلاء لديهم إمكانات لا حصر لها لدفع الحلول الفعالة وتعزيز التقدم الاجتماعي. يجب أن نعزز شراكاتنا وأن نعمل معا ونستغل هذه الإمكانات لصالح البشرية جمعاء”.
وتوجهت سعادة مساعد وزير الخارجية المتحدث الرسمي لوزارة الخارجية، بالشكر للجميع على مناقشة تشريع الإجراءات لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة في أقل البلدان نموا.
وقالت “مع اقترابنا من انعقاد مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس المعني بأقل البلدان نموا، يسرني أن أرحب بكم جميعا في دولة قطر لحضور هذا الحدث المهم. تلتزم دولة قطر بالعمل بكامل قوتها لدعم أقل البلدان نموا في تنفيذ برنامج عمل طموح وشامل وتطلعي ويتمحور حول الإنسان ولا يترك أحدا وراء الركب حقا ويدعم كرامة الإنسان ويحقق أهداف التنمية المستدامة. سنظل نسعى جاهدين لتحقيق هذه الطموحات والعمل يدا بيد من أجل وضع إطار معزز لدعم أقل البلدان نموا والبلدان النامية غير الساحلية”.
